Forensic Assessment and Tutorial
The reason for the forensic assessment is to ensure, in the public interest, that all applicants have adequate knowledge of current Australian and Queensland legislation and practice to enable you to safely and competently practise as a pharmacist in Queensland.
The written assessment is a short answer, open-book forensic test which takes approximately 2 to 2 1/2 hours to complete. A short oral tutorial will follow this assessment. The assessment paper and tutorial focus on the practical application of the following legislation and publications:
- Pharmacists Registration Act 2001;
- Pharmacists Registration Regulation 2001;
- Health (Drugs and Poisons) Regulation 1996;
- Standard for the Uniform Scheduling of Drugs and Poisons (SUSDP); and
- information from the following website http://www.pbs.gov.au.
A link to the legislation can be found on the Pharmacists Board website at http://www.pharmacyboard.qld.gov.au or copies of the legislation can be purchased from the Queensland Government Bookshop located at SDS Express, Ground Floor Mineral House, 41 George Street, Brisbane or via https://www.bookshop.qld.gov.au.
The Forensic Assessment is undertaken under supervision at the office of the Pharmacists Board in Brisbane located on Level 8, Forestry House, 160 Mary Street, Brisbane. Alternate arrangements can be made for candidates who do not reside in Brisbane.
Applicants will not be able to schedule assessment until at least 75 per cent (or three weeks) of the supervised practice placement has been completed.
On receipt of the Commencement of Supervised Practice Form (Form P521) [accessed from the Pharmacists Board website at http://www.pharmacyboard.qld.gov.au under Application Forms: Supervised Practice Forms for Overseas Trained Pharmacists], the Professional Adviser – Pharmacy will contact applicants to schedule assessment or applicants may telephone 07 3225 2502 to arrange a suitable date.
The Completion of Supervised Practice Form (Form 621) and the Application for Review of Conditions of Registration under Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition (Qld) Act 2003 may also be accessed from the Pharmacists Board website.
You should contact the above offices, and not the Pharmacists Board, to enquire about the costs of the required legislation.
Review of conditions
Pursuant to section 93 of the Pharmacists Registration Act 2001 your conditions cannot be reviewed until the expiration of the 28-day review period applying to the conditions.
You may then apply for the review of conditions using the Application for Review of Conditions (under Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition) Form. Supporting documentation must accompany this application.
The Board must consider the application and make a decision under section 98 of the Pharmacists Registration Act 2001.
Note: Registration will remain current until the upcoming 30th June, regardless of when Registration is granted.
A Renewal Application will be mailed to you in late April each year, so if you change your contact details, it is imperative that you advise the Board immediately.
